The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program is located in the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities (JSLH). The program offers a diverse understanding of a range of mediums and concepts with the realm of contemporary art. “The Homeland” is a collaborative effort of the current four batches of BFA students (BFA 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
Aashti Miller is an architect by day and an illustrator by night. She studied Architecture at Cornell University, where she received the prestigious Henry Adams AIA Medal. Alongside her architectural practice, Aashti runs MillerInk, an independent illustration and graphic design studio. Her work blends the structure of architecture with the fluidity of illustration, drawing from her dual expertise to create a unique aesthetic that blurs the boundaries between digital and analog, two and three dimensions, and constructed and painted forms. Aashti’s portfolio includes collaborations with prominent clients like Michael Kors, Uniqlo, Lamborghini, Cred, and Cornell University. She has also painted murals around the world, bringing her vibrant, detailed style to public spaces. In 2023, she was recognized on the Forbes India 30 under 30 list for Design, the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list for the Arts, and the POPxo Power Women List.
Abdulla PA is a multi-disciplinary artist who completed his BFA in 2021. He was awarded an honourable mention in the State Award category by the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi in 2020-21. His works were exhibited at the 50th annual State exhibition, conducted by the Akademi and also in the collateral show of Kochi Biennale, 2022. Motivated by the concepts of biomimicry and biomorphism, Abdulla collects peculiarlooking natural items to study them thoroughly and incorporate their aspects into the fields of art and design while also learning to extend their potential to his profession. The macro world view, presented by him through tiny, unassuming, natural objects, has become a point of discussion in the art milieu and his works are commanding immense interest among art lovers.
Alex Davis is a contemporary Indian sculptor, artist and designer. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering, he went on to pursue a Masters in Product Design from NID, Ahmedabad, and another Master’s in Industrial Design from Domus Academy, Milano, Italy. His work has been shown at the India Art Fair multiple times. He has had various solo and group shows in India as well as in prestigious international fairs like Scenes d’interieur at Maison et Objet, Paris, Salone del Mobile Milano and Abitare il Tempo, Verona. He has exhibited multiple times at the Maison et Objet Fair, Paris. He has received much appreciation from prestigious clients of the stature of Le Bon Marche, Paris, The Conran Shop, London, Galeries La Fayette, Paris, MANGO, Barcelona and Plus BO, Paris.
Ankon Mitra is an architect, landscape designer, sculptor of Folds - and pioneer of Origami in India. He is a recipient of the All-India Gold Medal for Sculpture in 2018 from the Prafulla Dahanukar Foundation. His art has been published in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s catalogue of ‘Papercrafts’, 2018. He has conducted several workshops on Geometry and Origami, notably at the Nanyang and Ngee Ann School of Design and Environment, Singapore, NID India and the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, teaching design and architecture students about origami and its multifaceted implications for spaces, products and industry.
Debasish Mukherjee is a New Delhi-based artist known for exploring India’s social landscape and cultural memory. Graduating in Painting from Banaras Hindu University, Mukherjee draws inspiration from India’s built environment and local communities. His solo exhibitions include Whispering Lanes (2023) and River Song (2019) at Akar Prakar, New Delhi. Mukherjee’s works are held in prestigious collections, including the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and The Partition Museum, Delhi. He has also contributed to group exhibitions in India and abroad, showcasing his research with artisans and weavers across India.
Deval Verma is an artist and mechanical engineer who transforms metal scrap into captivating art. With a postgraduate degree in product design from MIT Pune, he merges design and artistry to create customised artefacts. Through his own brand, he focuses on commissioned artworks, design projects, furnishing, and corporate gifting. Committed to skill development, Deval conducts workshops and offers a makers’ space for aspiring artists. He also champions sustainable development, notably with his active solar cooker designed for rural areas.
Gautam Rahul is the co-founder of Sancha Art Studio and a practising artist in New Delhi. With a BFA and MFA from the College of Art, Delhi, Gautam has taught as a guest lecturer at A.D. The Design School and conducted workshops at The Creative Studio. In addition to being a sculpture and mural artist, Gautam also works with oil, acrylic and watercolours. A recipient of awards like the Biswanath Mukherji Award, he has exhibited his work across Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur, and his art is held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
Harsha Durugadda is known for his larger scale sculptural works, where he incorporates various materials and primarily wood as a material to manifest his artistic productions. He is the winner of the Rio Tinto Sculpture Award at Sculpture by the Sea, Australia. Durugadda has received several awards, such as Biafarin Award, NordArt, Budeldorf, Germany; Rio Tinto Sculpture Award, Sculpture by the Sea, Perth, Australia; The Andrea Stretton Memorial Award, Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney (2016); and Fellowship, Unbox Festival, UK; among others.
K R Nariman draws her artistic inspiration from three years of training under K.S. Radhakrishnan, followed by an MFA from the University of the Arts, London. Her sculptures explore themes of human connectivity and wildlife concerns, primarily using recycled materials. She mainly works with two styles: abstract human figures that challenge societal norms regarding race and ethnicity, and nature-inspired sculptures aimed at rasing awareness about conservation. Nariman has held solo exhibitions in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, and participated in notable group exhibitions at the Paris Art Fair, Milan Art Fair, India Art Fair, and the Royal Society of British Artists in London, among others.
Trained as a sculptor from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda, India, Megha Joshi worked as a set designer and art director for 10 years before she quit to return to her fine art practice in 2008. Her uniqueness lies in her ability to express herself on various subjects, in a vast variety of media. She has worked with conventional materials such steel, fabric, bronze, rubber and most interestingly, everyday objects and materials used in Hindu ritualism. Megha’s works are strong yet experimental, as she does not believe in forced homogeneity in artworks. A large part ofher practice focuses on Gender, Ritual and Religion. She does scale installations and drawings remain a constant in her practice.
Nishant S Kumbhatil is a sculptor renowned for his innovative metal sculptures crafted from repurposed materials. Based in Mumbai, he specialises in creating awe-inspiring artworks. With a deep passion for metal art, Nishant excels in various techniques such as wrought iron arts, scrap metal art, bronze casting, and kinetic sculptures. His work not only showcases artistic excellence but also embodies a commitment to sustainability. Through collaborations with luxury brands and celebrities, he transforms spaces into captivating galleries of metal art.
Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty is an interdisciplinary artist from Bhubaneswar who primarily takes his hometown, Chilika Lake, as a conceptual site to respond ecologically, culturally and historically through his artistic practice. Known for his diverse material use, he was awarded a research scholarship and exhibited at the Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi at Bhubaneswar in 2015. He has also been part of several group exhibitions at prestigious galleries such as Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and the M. F. Hussain Art Gallery. While Pinaki primarily creates sculptures, he has also explored installations, photography, and drawing. Deeply influenced by Odisha’s literature and heritage, he reflects on its historical relevance in contemporary contexts through his art.
Pradeep Jogdand, is a Mumbai-based sculptor known for his exploration of dualities through contrasting textures and forms. With a BFA from J.J. School of Art and an MFA from Faculty of Fine Art, Jaipur, his sculptures blend rough and polished surfaces, embodying the rhythmic vitality of masculine and feminine forms. His work has been exhibited at prestigious venues like Jehangir Art Gallery and Lalit Kala Akademi. A recipient of multiple awards, Pradeep frequently participates in workshops across India and currently lives and works in Jaipur.
Rajesh P.S. is a practising artist based in Vadodara. He completed his post graduation in sculpture from Kalabhavana, Viswa Bharati University, West Bengal in 2004. Over the past decade he has dedicated himself to sculpting and has actively participated in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, art camps and art residences
Ravikumar Kashi is a contemporary visual artist known for his innovative use of diverse mediums to convey his artistic vision. A significant portion of his work features handmade paper, emphasising materiality, tactility, and the ephemeral nature of paper. His creations celebrate the artisanal process, highlighting the beauty of handcrafted techniques. Kashi’s work has been exhibited internationally in prestigious museums, biennales, art fairs, and galleries, earning him numerous accolades, including the National Award for his art and the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award for his writing. In addition to his artistic practice, Kashi is also an educator and author, contributing insightful writings on art and visual culture.
Rekha Goyal is a ceramic artist with 25 years of experience spanning across installations and murals for both private and public spaces, experimental design, material collaborations and projects in education, art therapy and artisanal craft. Her work is in the private collections of several collectors and has been showcased by organisations such as the Piramal museum, Mahindra museum, Godrej, TATA to name a few. Rekha graduated from Sir JJ School of Art where she specialised in Ceramics. She has an MA in Art in Architecture from London.
Sangam Vankhade is a Vadodara-based sculptor and artist whose works highlight various aesthetic and cultural choices through monuments and their momentariness. As a sculptor, Sangam’s artistic practice generates spaces through which histories, stories, traces, memories and motifs as symbolic values, incorporated to create different grounds of lived pasts and presents. He has attended international and national camps such as the Scogliera Viva-Sculpturing The Sea, International Symposium Italy (2018); 9th Tehran International Stone Sculpture Symposium, Iran (2019); Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre Woodcarving Camp Vidyaagar (2019), among others. Sangam has also been awarded many prestigious awards such as the Prafulla Dhanukar Award, the Gujarat State Award, and the Bombay Art Society Gold Medal.
Sayan Mukherjee is a passionate visual artist from India, who weaves stories through his dynamic and expressive artworks. His works are an ever-evolving exploration of beauty, life, and the stories that shape the world around him.
Sibdas Sengupta is a conceptual artist, writer, program strategist and curator, working between Gurgaon, Haryana, and his hometown, Cuttack, Odisha. He has done his BFA from B. K. College of Art and Craft, Bhubaneswar, and MFA from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences from Shiv Nadar University, Dadri. As a practitioner, Sibdas works with both artistic and curatorial projects, while working with various philosophical inquiries and artistic propositions, such as the ideas around transformative affectedness to different means of speed and immediacy and ideas around forgetfulness, and historical gaps, rejection, and spaces of abstraction as new forms of knowledge production.
Sudipta Das graduated with a BFA and MFA in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Viswa Bharati University in Santiniketan. Her practice revolves around the tenacity, fragility and importance that paper has in the lives of people and how it shapes their identity. She transforms paper into doll-like sculptures and is inspired by the Dakjee doll-making technique which she had learnt during her residency in Korea in 2017. Sudipta is a recipient of the Visual Artist Fellowship at Mittal Institute (Harvard University); the prestigious Visual Arts Award as part of Alpine Fellowship, Sweden; Greenshield Fellowship, Canada.
Tufan Pramanik, an artist from Gangrai near Kolkata, holds BFA and MFA degrees in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Known for his deep connection to Bengal’s landscapes, Tufan has earned numerous awards, including the Jogen Chowdhury Centre for Arts Scholarship and the 100 Artist Grant Award. His work has been exhibited in significant shows like the Birla Academy Annual Exhibition and CIMA Award Show (2022). Currently, he researches landscape transformations around Kolkata.
Valay Gada is an artist who works across multiple-media; metal, glass, ceramics, fibre etc. in sculpture, drawings, video installation, scenography and craft-based design. Valay honed his skill from his background in Fashion Lifestyle & Accessories Design at NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, India) after graduating in English Literature. His work is inspired by the organic environment and his Jain faith, to do no harm. As his work matures, it has become more political and personal in response to issues of human and animal rights, freedom of speech, mental health and sexual orientation in India. With the intense pressure of urbanisation and lack of public space, his work explores the context of forests to parks, children’s journals and herbariums, aerial views of cities from the night skies, and the contrast of laboratories and natural history museums relating to India’s post-colonial past.
Vijaya Chauhan is a sculptor with a postgraduate degree from Indira Kala Sangeet University. She has received numerous accolades, including the Kalasankranti Puraskar, CIMA Art Award, and various scholarships from the Ministry of Culture in India. Her work reflects on the balance of social and moral behaviour, exploring communication through the lens of sensory disabilities. Fascinated by the transformative power of Braille, she focuses on the beauty of touch and social gestures in her art.
Vivek Sharma is a Biotech Engineer from IIT Kharagpur who took a winding yet enriching path to the art world. After years spent teaching and a brief stint in the tech industry, he realized his true calling lay in the realm of creativity and cultural innovation. Now a cultural entrepreneur, he seeks to bridge the worlds of art and technology, crafting immersive kinesthetic experiences that engage the senses and invite interaction. Guided by a scientific mind and a creative soul, his work opens up new possibilities for how art can shape and be shaped by modern lives.
Wolf is a Jaipur-based art practice that uses scrap, discards and found objects to construct fantastical narratives informed equally by history, mythology and ecology. Their work utilises metaphors of gardens and forests as microcosms containing larger stories and hidden meanings. Materials and materiality are central to their practice, which they look for in flea markets, scrap yards and family archives, allowing them to connect personal narratives to broader social concerns. Along with their artworks, they also create ephemeral, immersive environments and large scale installations. As untrained artists, they subvert the expectations of a traditional artistic practice, collaborating with a wide range of artisans and craftspeople to bring their creative vision to life.
